Dragons Den entrepreneur Carol Savage is hoping to give inspiration to aspiring businesswoman when she reveals the secret behind Britain’s favourite social networking site for food lovers, MyDish.co.uk at the All Woman Show.
Carol, 43, who is at the show at Winchester Guildhall on Sunday (Nov 15), will be sharing tips for on-line business start ups as well as great recipe ideas for this Christmas.
The dynamic mother-of three who became the first Dragons Den competitor to ever be offered double the money for her business venture will be opening the show as well as speaking about her experience.
Carol hit upon setting up MyDish.co.uk after her husband Kenny’s mother passed away. He brought home two scraps of paper with her hand written recipes that he remembered from when he was a boy - Banana Bread and Lemon Meringue Pie.
She loved the idea of being able to share anecdotes about memorable recipe dishes through a community website where visitors can add a profile and even rate each other’s efforts in the kitchen.
After personally raising £600,000 the former marketing executive went on make TV history on the BBC2 programme when the tough Dragons offered her £200,000.
Carol went on the programme to secure £100,000 for a 10 per cent stake but she was delighted when two Dragons, Deborah Meaden and Theo Paphitis, combined to offer her double.
Despite the tempting offer to work with both investors, Carol eventually chose to stick with Deborah's original offer of £100,000 in return for a 15 per cent stake.
Carol said: “I am really looking forward to being at Winchester’s All Woman Show to tell people about MyDish.co.uk and get people to share their favourite dishes. I hope to inspire people to cook and share my experience of setting up an on-line business and going on Dragons’ Den.”
